Cannavaro to become new Italian captain

After having been the Parma captain, Fabio Cannavaro gets ready to wear the band with Italy. Paolo Maldini has said he will retire from the national team, and Cannavaro will be his heir.
The gialloblu defender, has already wore the band on five occasions, due to previous Maldini injuries, and he will become the leader and mentor of the team. The experience with Parma will help me.
"It's a little weird becoming the oldest of the group," Fabio Cannavaro says, "But I'm ready for it, I've learnt the role in the course of the years."

Before stepping onto the airplane, Fabio Cannavaro talks about how the team is living this particular moment. "Italy has sufferred a crushing blow, from a psychological standpoint, so now all we want to do is go on holiday. Soon we'll return to talk about the national team. And now we have to program ahead to show what we are made of."
Regarding the national team, Fabio Cannavaro adds: "It's strange that our defense gave up five goals in four games. The attack played well: if you give us the goals that were unfairly disallowed we would have been one of the highest scoring teams. Th defense instead didn't live up to expectations, perhaps for Nesta's injury, or because of the insecurity that took over. But if you give us the two goals against Croatia, the game ends 3-2 we are already qualified when we face Mexico, Trapattoni can rest most players, I don't get suspended, Alessandro can rest, we don't face Korea... I know the whole reasoning starts with a but, it still is quite astonishing. Don't you think so?"

Fabio Cannavaro concludes by going over the South Korea game: "I was sitting on the bench for the game, and right from the start I realised it was going to be a struggle: it seemed as if they never committed a foul, while we were getting all the bookings, the penalty... Then Totti received the red card, and Tommasi's goal was disallowed. Moreno, the referee, is incapable, but he isn't the only one involved in this. Italy was massacred strategically, and I don't know why: we remain an important soccer countri, so who is so happy to eliminate us?"
