Cannavaro to become new Italian captain
After having been the Parma captain, Fabio Cannavaro gets ready to wear
the band with Italy. Paolo Maldini has said he will retire from the
national team, and Cannavaro will be his heir.
Before stepping onto the airplane, Fabio Cannavaro talks about how the
team is living this particular moment. "Italy has sufferred a crushing
blow, from a psychological standpoint, so now all we want to do is go on
holiday. Soon we'll return to talk about the national team. And now we
have to program ahead to show what we are made of." Fabio Cannavaro concludes by going over the South Korea game: "I was sitting on the bench for the game, and right from the start I realised it was going to be a struggle: it seemed as if they never committed a foul, while we were getting all the bookings, the penalty... Then Totti received the red card, and Tommasi's goal was disallowed. Moreno, the referee, is incapable, but he isn't the only one involved in this. Italy was massacred strategically, and I don't know why: we remain an important soccer countri, so who is so happy to eliminate us?"
