Fabio Cannavaro
was
born in Napoli the 13th September 1973.
He is the second of 3 sons, he starts immediately
playing soccer and at 8 he enters in Italsider
team of Bagnoli, after have “overused” shoes and
balls on ground fields in Fuorigrotta.
At 11 he starts playing with Napoli
and immediately wins a (trofeo), the
junior
championship in 1987. It is the gold period of
Napoli that, with Maradona, wins all, and Fabio
nearly follows his great
idol
as ballkeeper
in San Paolo stadium.
Apart from Super Diego there is also his favourite
defender,
Ciro Ferrara, and from him he learns everything,
also the
tackle…One
time, Fabio is part of Junior team, he
goes in tackle
like that on Big Maradona and suddenly arrived a
reprimand
by a National Team’s dirigent. “Pibe de Oro” takes
the defence of Cannavaro himselfs: “Good, it is ok
like that” sayed to Fabio the argentine great
champion.
When he arrives in the first team
(March 7th 1993) Maradona is already
gone away and Napoli is all for
the more promising product of its junior team,
even if the results are, for the moment, not
so big.
Fabio fight for salvation and take out all his
great and explosive capacities that will make him
the most rapid and incisive defender
of A series.
The adventure in Napoli last 3
seasons, then, in the summer of 1995, he arrives
in Parma team where, with Buffon and Thuram,
formes one of the most important defences of the
world. With this strong
backguard
Parma wins Coppa Italia, Coppa Uefa, Supercoppa
Italiana and they almost arrive catching the
Italian championship in the season of Juan
Sebastian Veron.
This year, with the departure of
Lilian Thuram to Juventus , Parma has decided to
make Fabio Captain of the team. He is without
douts the leader of Parma team.
Among with the great success with
Parma, arrive big satisfactions with National
Team. He wins 2 European Championship Under 21
with Italian team trained by Cesare Maldini (1994
and 1996) and he reach Major National Team on the
22nd of January 1997 with the match
Italia – Northen Ireland (2-0). With national
shirt he is
leader
during World Cup of France 1998 and European
Championship of 2000.
Now he waits for World Cup in
Japan…dreaming the most beautiful Cup!
